Update on The Roof Project for Pastor Fredy at the Comedor de JesuCristo in La Ceiba

​We have been able to help Pastor Fredy with the first phase of the Roof project.

We were able to visit his church on Saturday and see that there is still much progress to be made. We sat in service and were rained on under the yet to be replaced roof. It was great to see first hand the severity of the need as well as the steadfastness of the Pastor and church as they did not let this major inconvenience affect them. Their ministry continues despite the heavy rains.

He is a man that holds in very high regard the responsibility God has bestowed upon him. His work is run on Faith in God alone. 

7 DAYS A WEEK AND 24 HOURS A DAY, PEOPLE IN LA CEIBA CAN COME TO THE COMEDOR DE JESUCRISTO AND RECEIVE A MEAL.

There are three designated meal times set aside to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, however, because of a rotation of volunteer pastors and church leaders, they will serve a meal to someone in need at any time of day or night. 

The location is centrally located and easy to access. There are no forms to sign, or agreements between those serving and those eating. They have stripped everything down to a basic service of feeding the hungry. At each meal the word of God is preached, and food is served. They do so based on a belief of biblical scriptures instructing them to do so.

Update on Pastor Fredy at the Comedor de JesuCristo in La Ceiba

We are always excited to see and hear updates from hardworking individuals in La Ceiba Honduras. 

Pastor Fredy Ventura runs a local kitchen which serves the citizens of La ceiba who are of the most food insecure in the community. You might remember that our most recent team from the World Race had a chance to serve there in April. 

They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner - 7 days a week. 

He shared this update on his Facebook Page yesterday: 

This local kitchen is preparing, and serving 350 meals a day on a budget that comes solely from local and international donors added to what he contributes. We are happy to be connected to his ministry and look forward to serving him in just a couple of weeks during our next Mission Trip to La Ceiba Honduras.

7 days a week and 24 hours a day, people in La Ceiba can come to the Comedor de JesuCristo and receive a meal.

There are three designated meal times set aside to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, however, because of a rotation of volunteer pastors and church leaders, they will serve a meal to someone in need at any time of day or night. 

The location is centrally located and easy to access. There are no forms to sign, or agreements between those serving and those eating. They have stripped everything down to a basic service of feeding the hungry. People wishing to get a meal do not need to do anything except show up. 

Pastor Fredy has told us of numerous times when this community kitchen was out of food with no resources left to purchase food as well.

Serving up to three hundred meals each day is a huge task to undertake and being without food in the pantry is a major problem. Pastor Fredy described one such occasion when one of the volunteer cooks called him and told him the pantry was completely empty. Being a man of great faith, and conviction, he instructed her to put the pots and pans on the stove and to begin boiling water. She did as he said, while Freddy drove up to the kitchen. When he arrived he circled up all of the volunteers to pray for provisions. As they concluded their prayers, a vehicle approached, and out stepped a person no one had ever met offering a trunk load of food to be donated to the feeding program.

Pastor Freddy truly believes that every meal provided by this program past, present and in the future is directly from God, and he continues to feed those who come because of that faith.

He has shared with us that he has seen many people benefit from this program in their time of need so much so that he has even seen some people get off the street and return to their family and employment. They also have several "graduates' who now volunteer their time and no longer live on the streets like those they now get the chance to serve. 

We are grateful to be able to support Comedor de JesuCristo, Our Team in July served here as well as donated several hundred pounds of food, and medical supplies for a free clinic that is also available.

Honduras Mission update

This is an update from our friend, Billy Chrzan, Connect Global's NEW Honduras Field Partner. 

We are very excited about the opportunity to partner with Billy and believe that the best is yet to come with our efforts in Honduras through Aquaponics.

So far we have built systems with the capacity to grow 2800 pounds of food (fish and vegetables) in a growing season...and we have 4 growing seasons here where we live...imagine the mouths that will be reached with quality, healthy, organic food grown with their help.

As briefly mentioned above, we now have 26 systems that are either in design and planning stage, are funded and waiting, are still in the raising funds stage or already built and needing maintained.

26 systems will feed a great multitude of people. Some are small backyard systems and a few are community systems. Please join us as we conquer and cancel out the hunger in our area by teaching them to grow their own healthy vegetables with very little ground space and cost to work with. An Aquaponics system will give new crops year after year for decades to come.

Climate Change Could Delay The Fight Against World Hunger For Decades: Report

Coffee, almonds and apples are just a few foods whose continued production is under threat due to climate change. But the implications of a changing climate have a much broader impact on global food supply, according to a new report.

The new report, which Oxfam released Monday, warns that climate change threatens to delay the fight against world hunger for decades. The threat of climate change on food is much worse than the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimated in their last report in 2007.

Oxfam, a global confederation of 17 organizations fighting poverty and hunger, analyzed whether the world is prepared to meet food demands in a changing climate. The report's release comes just ahead of the publication of the next portion of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Fifth Assessment Report, which will focus on climate impacts, vulnerability and adaptation.

"What Oxfam is discovering more and more in our work to address hunger and poverty globally is that climate change is one of the single biggest threats to winning the fight against hunger," Heather Coleman, Oxfam International's climate change policy manager, told The Huffington Post. "The reason for that is because of growing food insecurity."
