In February 2021 the Connect Global team was able to start the school year off by assuming the financial and logistical responsibilities of a school, Las Huellas Del Maestro, which as of March 1st, 2021 has 172 students as a part of expanding our ongoing commitment to education and care for children.

Connect Global has donated 31 tablets to Las Huellas del Maestro School in Honduras

It has been calculated that 168 million students worldwide have gone an entire year with their schools being closed due to the pandemic. These students are at risk of falling behind on their education and those who are most vulnerable are at risk to lose the most.

The challenges that students are facing here in Honduras are at times insurmountable. A year of schools being closed to in person learning, 2 massive hurricanes, and several other economic shortfalls have kept school out of reach for many and nearly impossible for some.

One hindrance has been the lack of connected devices to get lessons and “meet” with teachers.

This month we told you about a brand new Education Initiative Connect Global is embarking on at Las Huellas del Maestro School in San Juan Pueblo. We found that the teachers here have been doing so much in order to stay connected to their students but were still facing an enrollment deficit, lack of teaching resources, and shortage of internet connected devices such as tablets or phones for students.

As Connect Global steps into this new stewardship and administrative role with the school we have been made abundantly aware of the needs of the teachers and students.

One immediate need we knew we had to begin working to fulfill was the lack of technology infrastructure. We have already seen a dramatic increase of students enrolling because they now have the commitment of a new tablet to be able to connect and learn.

Connect Global is doing our part to help students stay enrolled, return to the classroom, and receive the life changing education they deserve.

Connect Global was able to more fully assess the need for technology upgrades at Las Huellas Del Maestro School in San Juan Pueblo, Honduras. The government in Honduras continues to prevent in person gatherings for schools but has continued to hold teachers, parents, and students accountable for continued education in a virtual format despite the overall lack of internet availability, and lack of adequate connected devices.

The need for technology across all disciplines is impossible to ignore. Primary and Secondary Education are no exception. The speed at which the world is increasingly reliant on technology for learning, communicating and staying relevant has never been more apparent than during the global crisis of Covid-19.
