Connect Global is taking time to honor and celebrate moms this month. We asked our moms (and several other moms we know) a few Questions to get a conversation started about what is important in life and what moms want to see in the world for themselves, and most importantly for their children. Hope you enjoy and please take a minute to ask your mom questions like these from time to time, you may be delightfully surprised by what you learn your mom!

1. Describe a time in your life you really needed someone and they came through for you?

In my third year of college, which also happened to be my senior year of college, I was lost, on the wrong path, hanging out with the wrong people, and doing the wrong things. I didn’t think I needed anyone but looking back, I desperately needed someone to help open my eyes and pull me out of the mess I was in. My older brother, Kris, came through for me then. He loved me through it, spoke the truth I needed to hear, and helped point me in the right direction. Because of his courage to step up and say something, I was able to get on the path I was supposed to be on all along.

2. Who is a woman in your life that has been especially influential in your life?

As cliche as it sounds, my mom. She has always been there, whether it was with the perfect advice at just the right time, offering her ears to just listen and a shoulder to cry on, and always giving more than I deserve. She’s taught me things as simple as how to cook and clean for my household, all the way to how a family should love and care. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her constant love, support, teaching, and guiding hand.

3. What books by female authors have you read, and what books did you find impactful?

Some of my favorites by female authors have been “You are a Badass” and “You are a Badass at Making Money” by Jen Sincero, “Brunette Ambition” by Lea Michele, “Staying Stylish” by Candace Bure, and “The Battlefield of the Mind” by Joyce Meyer. I loved all of these for different reasons. There were things I could learn about business, every day, and my walk with God. But I do remember after reading “Brunette Ambition” being fired up to live my best life. Eat healthy, stay active, chase after my dreams like never before. Something about hearing Lea’s story ignited a fire to go after mine.

4. WHERE DO YOU DRAW ENCOURAGEMENT FROM?

A few places. First and foremost from God. Then from my husband and daughter, and finally community of people around me. I’m so thankful for my people and who I get to do life with.

5. WHAT PROJECT, HOBBY, OR MISSION ARE YOU ESPECIALLY EXCITED ABOUT OR INVOLVED IN RIGHT NOW?

Our next big project is transforming our guest bedroom into a nursery next month for our baby boy who is due this July! We are excited to welcome another boy into the family and watch our daughter, Adelaide, be a big older sister. So that’s definitely taking up a lot of our focus and excitement right now!

6. WHAT DOES THE WORLD NEED MORE OF RIGHT NOW?

Love. Definitely love. The real and true love. Not the love that takes advantage, manipulates, or is based on conditions. But the love that says, “I will be there for you no matter what you do or say, today, tomorrow, next year.” That patient, kind, never failing love.

7. WHAT DO YOU WANT MOST FOR YOUR CHILDREN?

For them to go after their dreams with all they have and not stop until they achieve them. And then make new ones and achieve those too. I want them to know that the old, traditional ways are being redefined and they can truly do anything.

8. NAME SOMETHING YOU BOUGHT FOR YOURSELF THAT YOU LOVE.

I bought myself bowls and spoons made from real coconuts that I’m obsessed with. I’m a foodie so I put smoothies, salads, you name it, in them and always take pictures of my creations. The plus side is they are eco-friendly and beautiful. (Go check out Coconut Bowls if you want to see for yourself!)

9. NAME 2 THINGS YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT MONEY COULDN’T BUY AND WHY THEY MEAN SO MUCH TO YOU.

Family and community. With these two aspects in my life, I know I will never have to face anything alone, I always have someone I can turn to, and I will never be in need. In today’s world, families are falling apart more than ever and being able to turn to mine (husband, parents, cousins, aunts, etc) daily gives me hope and strength. I also think everyone should have some sort of community. A tribe of people who they do life with. Sometimes it changes, but the depth of those relationships are always so vital in different seasons. I have close friends that I can ask for anything and they would be there, and that’s huge.
