Supporting the Circus Amidst Covid-19

Connect Global has partnered with several concerned pastors, doctors, church members, and friends to help bring relief to those in need during this global crisis. Thank You to everyone who has given to make this possible.

We have been able to help families who are in need, and one of those families is the Valiente Family.

Of the hundreds of stops we’ve made to personally distribute food and other basic necessities to our friends, neighbors and families in need the Valiente Family may be one of my most fun and treasured memories.

Señora Rosita Valiente, who has accomplished 72 years of life, told me she was born in to the circus business and has loved entertaining families all across the nation her entire life.

Together with her sons, grandsons and their families they arrived in La Ceiba in late February, well before most nations including the US and Honduras had put in place any of the COVID-19 restrictions that eventually impacted virtually every corner of the earth. Before Honduras enacted the lockdown and La Ceiba became closed to entry and exit, the Valiente family had set up the big top 🎪 and tried to open to a very lackluster response.

La Ceiba was experiencing a heavier than normal rainfall for the first week or so that they tried to open and then on March 15th the announcements came of the strict closures, stay at home orders, and extreme social distancing. These changes meant there would be no gathering at the circus.

For a traveling family that has literally dedicated their life to this business it was a devastating blow. No people to entertain means no business. No business means no food, gas, or other necessities.

My friend and Connect Global National Director Jorge Amador, originally mentioned their situation to us and we immediately decided to go meet the family and see what we could do to help.

During the week of April 6th our team visited with them several times and made a plan to get specific items they were in need of. We were honored to be able to help provide propane tanks for cooking, an assortment of fresh food and pantry items, along with other necessities like pampers and medications, and we may have included a couple of special snacks for the kids. 😉.

Since our initial visits we have visited 3 more times during the shutdown and were able to stop by this Wednesday to check in. Señora Valiente described to us on one of our visits just how hard this has been and how much this has affected their families. It was heartbreaking to hear how difficult it has been but I was grateful to hear how they described their faith. They shared with us how as a family they had been meeting together under the empty big top to have church. On one of those evenings in early April, they shared with Jorge how they had prayed to God that they would “not be forgotten”. It was the very next day after that prayer that Jorge and I showed up to bring groceries. They were excited to share this story with us because they said it was like “God had directly answered our prayers.

Señora Valiente told us that she has been through a lot in 72 years as a circus family and went into describing how she and her family made it through two of the three deadliest storms ever recorded, Hurricane Fifi in 1974 and Hurricane Mitch in 1998. She remembers losing revenue, equipment, and even having to dig out her big top from the mud with excavators— she then said, “this [COVID-19] has been our biggest challenge”.

I’m glad for the opportunity to meet people like the Valiente Family. They still have hope to share and smiles to give. I know this has been so extremely difficult for them but through it all they still give God the credit for their family’s well being. Hearing them share their hearts gives me hope and something to smile about.

I appreciate every single person who has invested into us and into Connect Global. You are making an indelible impact in the lives of many.

The Valiente Family is just one of the families who have been affected by COVID-19 and we know many more will still be in need well after the bans are lifted and life continues beyond this pandemic.

We couldn’t do what we do without you and we are grateful for your continued support and prayers.

Muchas Gracias all the way From Honduras!!
